Department
wants to hire a temporary employee to work as an Administrative Clerk at
$13.00 per hour. Is this possible?
No,
because the hourly rate exceeds the maximum of the salary range.
-
Same
person above went to school up to the 10th grade only. Can we hire this person as an Administrative Clerk?
No, because this person does not
meet the minimum requirements of a high school diploma or the equivalent.
-
Same
person above – can we hire this person to work from January 3, 2000
through August 31, 2000 at 30 hours per week?
Yes,
if they meet the minimum qualifications required and are working less than
20 hours per week. 1 to 19 hours per week can be hired for more than 4 months at a time.
20 to 40 hours per week require a break-in-service.
-
The
MOE for this person was prepared today and was sent for approvals, can
he/she start today?
The only way this person can start
immediately, is if they have all approvals required (i.e., Account Manager,
Budget Office, & Human Resources) on the MOE and the person recommended
has completed all the required employment forms at Human Resources.
-
This
person is a male, 23 years old and is not registered for the Selective
Service; can we hire this person?
No,
because the law requires them to be registered. If they wish to register on-line, we will assist them in Human
Resources. Once they've registered then they become eligible to work.
-
This
person is hired in Academic Computing at 20 hours per week. Information Systems wants to hire the same person for 30 hours per
week, is this okay?
No, because they would exceed the 40 hours per week maximum. If they reduce the Information Systems position to 20 hours per week,
then it's okay for Academic Computing to hire them for 20 hours per week.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the dates hired and
break-in-service have to coincide so that there is no problem.
-
This
person is hired in Academic Computing at 40 hours per week as a temporary
employee; can Computer Science hire this person to teach a 3-hour course?
Again
"no" because they would exceed the 4o hours per week maximum.
The 3-hour course is considered to be the equivalent of 10 hours per
week. If
Academic Computing reduces the hours to 30 hours per week, then this person
can teach the course.
-
This
person is employed as a regular full-time classified exempt employee; can
he/she teach a continuing education course?
Yes with the approval of their account manager/supervisor. The teaching assignment should not interfere with the regular/normal
work hours of the regular position.
-
This
person is employed as a regular full-time classified nonexempt (hourly)
employee; can he/she teach a continuing education course?
No.
-
We
do not plan to rehire this temporary employee, should we submit a
Termination Notice for this person?
Yes,
the Termination Notice is necessary so that we can remove this person from
the payroll.
