Wellness Program Spring 2004:
Achieving Core Results
As we strive to achieve core results we must all know that achieving
success in any task is simply not enough. When one tries to achieve
success, he/she must aim specifically for a topic. This semester I would
like to challenge YOU to take on a specific health related challenge, and
more importantly, accomplish it.
Considerations when setting the goal:
- Ensure that the task is achievable.
If your normal body weight is 180 lbs. and you weigh 190 lbs., your goal
should not be to lose 20 lbs. Keep your goal realistic.
- Give yourself a due date.
This is like someone that owes you money and you make the mistake of
telling them, “Pay me whenever.” Whenever will never come! Set a
specific due date.
- Measure your progress (or lack of).
Make a note in a planner of body measurements every month or log how
many cigarettes you smoked this week as opposed to last week.
- Reward yourself.
Take a day out of the week to do something fun or do something that you
enjoy. If your goal was to cut back on sweets, indulge in a slice of
cake at the end of the week. (Note: A slice, not two or not one
over-sized slice)
- Utilize your support group.
Be it your mother, friend, sister, or brother, know which people are
positive influences on you and which are negative. When you find
yourself in a stressful situation enjoy the company of someone positive.
