N.E.W. You
Welcome to the NEW You Program Website.
We are currently under construction.
Please contact Samuel L. Perez for any inquiries
regarding the NEW You Program at 882-7614.

The NEW You (Nutrition, Exercise, and Wellness) Program is an initiative to motivate and support employees to improve their health and physical condition via a three level collaborative approach. Each approach is intended to target a variety of aspects of wellness for each individual. Participation in the N.E.W. You Program is 100% voluntary. One may also participate in one or all the aspects of the program. For example, you may seek the aid of our Dietitian, but not the Personal Trainer. Appointments with the N.E.W. You staff will be on a first come, first serve basis and will be confirmed with the Training Specialist.

The following is a description of the program services offered Free of Charge to All UTB/TSC Employees (this includes all part-time staff/faculty, all full-time staff/faculty, and all work-study employees.)

Nutrition: There are three N.E.W. You lectures scheduled per year. Topics of discussion may include Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and other Heart Disease & Cancers. Guest speakers may include dietitians, doctors, or other affiliated healthcare/dietary professionals. Additionally, there will be opportunities for any employees who sign-up to meet with a Dietitian in a 30 minute One-On-One Meeting(s). Prior to meeting with the Dietitian we highly recommend that the employee be ready with Lab Work (done at Student Health Services or with a private physician) and attend the appointment with a genuine concern for their own well-being in order to make a healthy lifestyle change. There will be no fad diets or diets of any sort prepared for an employee. Every individual will be given the tools to create their own menu in order to allow food choices that YOU can live with.

Exercise: The exercise portion of the N.E.W. You will also include three lectures. Topics of discussion may include Exercising during a Pregnancy & Exercise 101-How to Get Started. Guest speakers may include personal trainers, physical therapists, doctors, or any other affiliated certified/licensed professional. Future planning for the exercise portion of the N.E.W. You Program will also supplement the UTB/TSC – Wellness Program in that we will offer 30 minute One-On-One personal strength training sessions. This will include cardiovascular warm-up and the use of free weights and equipment to build muscular strength and endurance. We would require all participants to be dressed accordingly for a workout and we highly recommend a physical or clearance from a physician to begin weight training before attending.

Wellness: A holistic aspect to the program will allow the participants to attend Support Group Training Sessions to discuss progress with others with the guidance from the HR Training Specialist. Sessions offered will include a variety of topics: Using an Exchange Book, Using a Pedometer, Eating on the Go, Healthy Snacks, Portion Control, Reading Food Labels, & Food Safety. These sessions will be offered throughout the course of the year.

In effect, all these aspects of leading a health conscious lifestyle will synergistically affect the individuals’ lives in a more positive way.
